Apprenticeships and traineeships
Apprenticeships and traineeships are a great way to combine training with working in a real job, for a real boss with a real wage.
TAFE Queensland will work with you and your employer throughout your apprenticeship or traineeship to develop a training plan, deliver training, assess your achievement of skills and issue your qualification upon successful completion.
TAFE Queensland offers pre-trade programs (sometimes referred to as prevocational or pre-apprenticeship programs) that will equip you with the skills to start an apprenticeship in manufacturing, construction, engineering or professional cookery industries.
TAFE also offers school-based apprenticeships and traineeships which allow high school students to work for an employer, train towards a recognised qualification, and complete their secondary school studies.
If you are already trade qualified, TAFE Queensland can also assist you to expand your existing skills in both technical and supervisory capacities through its range of post-trade (sometimes referred to as advanced trade) programs. The primary goal of these programs is to enhance your career opportunities.

Gain job ready skills: Pre-vocational courses
Successful completion of a prevocational course provides advanced standing in, or credit towards, the off-the-job component of apprenticeship training.
Study a range of modules common to a large number of occupations, along with technical modules and life and communication skills.
Prepare for an apprenticeship: Pre-apprenticeship courses
Improve your chances of becoming an apprentice though a Pre-apprenticeship course.
Pre-apprenticeship courses have three advantages:
1. They form a valuable transition from school to work for school leavers.
2. Course completion may reduce the length of the apprenticeship
3. Employers can employ an apprentice who has immediately usable skills and who will require less time to complete any off-the-job training component.

Women in trade courses
TAFE Queensland supports gender equality initiatives and has a commitment to increase and extend the participation rates of women in vocational education and training.
Women are encouraged to apply for entry into all TAFE courses, including trades.
TAFE institutes provide assistance to female students, particularly those undertaking courses in areas where women are under-represented.
