Ready for workforce

Nine local women are qualified and ready to tackle a career within the construction industry having successfully completed the Whitsunday Women Ready for Work program.
Facilitated by the Whitsunday Development Corporation and funded by the State Government, all participants received a nationally recognised TAFE certificate from the Barrier Reef Institute and an industry Blue Card.
Minister for Women, Margaret Keech said her office was pleased to be able to support a local program which addressed unemployment and skill shortages in the region.
Meanwhile Whitsunday graduate Julie Vinci said she found the course to be valuable.
"Attaining this certificate and completing this course has been beneficial in my endeavour for future
employment within the mining industry," Ms Vinci said.
As part of the program graduates were treated to a guided tour of the Abbot Point Coal Terminal by Ports Corporation of Queensland, Matthew Magin.
Whitsunday Development Corporation CEO Rebecca Andrews said this opportunity opened doors for many of the participants by giving them knowledge, confidence, networking opportunities, contacts and an insight into the type of jobs which were available.
"We will continue to research and develop innovative solutions to address skill shortages and professional development opportunities," Ms Andrews said.
