Melbourne Cup fashion design winner
Nigel Vogler |
Art, entertainment and design Nigel Vogler's long held passion for fashion propelled him into national headlines when a dress he reconstructed from an $18 vintage frock took out the 2010 Melbourne Cup Oaks Day Fashions on the Field. He credits his TAFE training with opening the doors for him and providing the skills. Nigel went on to win the Vocational Student of the Year in the 2011 Queensland Training Awards.

Building and construction Paul Elford is a case study in widening your horizons and knowledge through TAFE. It has helped him achieve optimum performance in his role as Senior Workplace Health and Safety Officer for Bundaberg Regional Council and ultimately heightens his job satisfaction. Paul has received a number of training related award nominations over the last three years. |

Business and financial services Biztopia is an information technology services firm providing businesses with complete, tailored and managed technology solutions since 1997. Managing director Michael Munt completed an Associate Diploma in Business at TAFE with a computing strand and, in 2008, was named Ipswich Chamber of Commerce's Young Business Person of the Year. |

Community Services Tracy Brown is realising her career ambition to work in criminal law, with the help of TAFE. A Vocational Student of the Year state finalist at the 2010 Queensland Training Awards, Tracy continues to excel and says TAFE prepared her extremely well for university. "TAFE gave me invaluable practical experience, as well as long term friendships and networks which led to finding my current work". |

Multiple award winner Jessica Meek |
Engineering, automotive and mining TAFE graduate Jessica Meek scored the highest result within five years in her final electrical exam. Apprentice of the Year at the 2011 Queensland Training Awards, Jessica is now a Project Manager at Babinda Electrics and is being trained to coordinate large scale electrical projects and to be an Occupational Health and Safety Officer. She is a 2011 winner in the Construction Skills Queensland Excellence Awards and finalist in the Australian Training Awards. |

From police officer to landscape designer Kevan Fowler |
Horticulture and primary industries Kevan Fowler specialises in garden design, plant selection and landscape construction. As a TAFE qualified metal fabricator and landscaper/horticulturist, Kevan produces metal garden sculptures, gates and water features to complement his outdoor concepts. His business, Zen Metal Art and Landscaping, won awards in the landscaping section of the 2010 and 2011 Queensland Garden Expos. |

Information and communication technology Brent Irvine, creative agency director, completed his information technology training with TAFE, completing projects for real clients and making valuable contacts that helped him get into the workforce. Programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People Cheryl left Primary School at age nine. Frustrated by not being able to help her children with their homework, Cheryl completed a correspondence course in Years 5, 6, 7 and junior adult literacy and numeracy. She then went on to do a Vocational Access course in basic numeracy and literacy at TAFE. Encouraged by her success, Cheryl applied to do a Diploma of Early Childhood Teaching at TAFE and took a giant step to achieving her dream of becoming a teacher. Cheryl has gone on to complete a Masters in Special Education. |
