TAFE kitchen courses heat up
Wednesday, 6 February 2013
Central Queensland TAFE Mackay's training kitchens will be heating up this year with innovative team building and pre-employment cookery courses on the menu.
Chef Teacher Glenn Davis said the Team Building Professional Cookery course was the perfect way for businesses and industry to work and grow together in a fun way.
"There is nothing more exciting than working together as a team to create the perfect meal and then sitting down to enjoy it afterwards," Mr Davis said.
"The kitchen is a great place to get to know each other, see where our strengths and weaknesses lie and of course escape from the office for a few hours."
Mr Davis said Mackay accountancy firm Power2 was just one local business that had benefitted from the team building course.
Power2 co partner Peter Trifelly said the course was "a great way to get the team at Power2 together, away from the office, into a fun, interactive environment."
"Everyone participated, and what is more, we were all able to sample eachothers 'creations' with the lavish banquet at the end of the afternoon," Mr Trifelly said.
"We would definitely recommend this for team building."
Mr Davis said businesses interested in participating in the team building course should contact the Institute.
Mr Davis said other courses for people considering a career in hospitality include the Certificate II in Hospitality (Kitchen Operations) qualification.
"This course is for people without any previous skills or qualifications, looking to break into the industry," he said.
"The course has a full cookery focus and there is a mandatory work placement component so your skills will be coming directly from the industry."
The course will commence on February 18 and be held three days a week from 9am to 3pm.
