Two staff members from Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE (MSIT) have been recognised for their hard work, commitment to excellence and community spirit after receiving 2012 Australia Day Achievement Awards from the Department of Education and Training.
Jane McPhee, Manager of Training and Delivery Solutions, and Chris Booth, photoimaging teacher, were rewarded for their significant contributions to the Department and the wider community.
Institute Director Kaylene Harth said she was extremely proud to see staff officially acknowledged for their hard work toward ensuring MSIT was job focused, industry linked and globally connected.
"I know all staff at MSIT will join me in congratulating Jane and Chris. It is an honour to work alongside these fine individuals who work hard every day to demonstrate our institute's values of creativity, wisdom, courage, innovation, integrity and diversity," Ms Harth said.
"The awards are another reminder of the commitment shown by all staff to make MSIT a great place to work, which in turn results in a great experience for our students and business clients."
Chris Booth (Training and Skilling Queensland category, 2012 Australia Day Achievement Awards)
Chris Booth has worked with MSIT since 2000 and brings enthusiasm, energy and passion to his photography teaching.
Ms Harth said Chris had been instrumental in growing the delivery of photography at MSIT to include nine class offerings from a Certificate III and Certificate IV to a Diploma of Photoimaging.
"Chris was inspired by the Governments investment in the Creative Industries precinct at the Mount Gravatt campus and, in 2007, saw an opportunity to work with industry given the quality and range of new facilities," Ms Harth said.
"As a result, Chris instigated the institutes now highly successful relationship with the Australian Institute of Photography (AIPP) - Australia's leading membership body for the photography community."
In June 2011, Chris successfully led a group of MSIT students on a study tour to Belas Artes University in Sao Paulo, Brazil as part of the institute's 'Global Connections' program.
Jane McPhee (Training and Skilling Queensland category, 2012 Australia Day Achievement Awards)
In her role as Manager of Training and Delivery Solutions, Jane McPhee has made a highly positive impact to the Department, the State and to more than 2,400 Queensland small businesses.
Ms Harth said Jane has delivered exceptional results in the delivery of innovative and flexible vocational training, through sound strategic and financial management and effective team leadership.
"Jane's commitment to commercial training is ensuring that Queensland is building a skilled workforce, to meet the current and future needs of industry. She leads a team that is focussed on building constructive business relationships that provide clients with tailored training," Ms Harth said.
The Australia Day Achievement Awards are an initiative of the National Australia Day Council.
