Digital SLR Video Workshop

Internationally renowned travel photographer Nick Rains and documentary cinematographer Pieter de Vries will host a Digital SLR Video Workshop at the Creative Industries Precinct, Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE (MSIT), Mt Gravatt on Thursday, 26 May.

The workshop is part of a nation wide seminar program which will teach participants the essentials of creating video content including essential hardware, sound recording, shooting and editing techniques.

Mr Rains said the workshop format would explain to photographers why it is important to have the skills and knowledge to apply mixed media content in the creative and publishing industries.

"The photography and publishing industry is transitioning to delivery on mixed media applications such as tablet computers, iPhones and iPads.

"This brings new challenges for photographers as they face an ever demanding market to provide flexibility to their clients," Mr Rains said.

"Photographers are noticing traditional print clients requesting video clips from their stills photographs.

"This is why it is essential for photographers to have the knowledge and skills of video capability so that they can produce good quality footage."

Session topics will include accessories, DSLR camera controls, lens choices, sequencing shots, shooting techniques, software, sound recording, sequencing shots and timelapse.

Institute Director Kaylene Harth said hosting the DSLR Video Workshop would provide an exciting opportunity to expose MSIT's world class dedicated photography, television, film and motion capture studios.

"We provide enhanced opportunities for students to develop technology and creative skills as part of a modern, innovative education and we are proud to show why MSIT is one of Australia's lead institutes in multimedia education and training."

Pieter de Vries brings decades of experience as a documentary cameraman working with high end video and film cameras.

Nick Rains offers a perspective of 28 years as a stills photographer who recognised and developed the potential of HD video for his business.
