WorldSkills Australia Competition

Australia has no lack of skilled young tradespeople. In fact, hundreds of handsaws, shears, scissors and carving knives will soon be sharpened by Australia's most skilled trainees and apprentices in anticipation of one of the most thrilling events of their lives - the WorldSkills Australia National Competition.

82 of Queensland's highly skilled apprentices from around the state will demonstrate their talents at the nation's largest showcase of skills and trade excellence in Sydney.

The WorldSkills Australia National Competition sees competitors aged between 16 and 23 vying for a gold medal in 50 different trade and skill categories, ranging from carpentry and welding, to hairdressing, cooking and web design.

The competition will take place at the Sydney Olympic Park from 30 August to 1 September, and will coincide with National Skills Week.

Australia's most remarkable talent will be fighting not only to become the National Champion in their chosen trade, but also for the opportunity to gain a coveted place in Team Australia Skillaroos, the national team who will be competing at the International WorldSkills Competition in Germany  in 2013.
